SSC JE is for Diploma holders (or equivalent degrees) in Civil, Electrical or Mechanical discipline.

3. Junior Engineer (Mechanical)
4. Junior Engineer (Electrical & Mechanical)
5. Junior Engineer (Quantity Surveying & Contract) - Diploma in Civil required.
Now these are the posts, but they can be in more than one department. e.g. JE Civil in CPWD, MES and Deptt of Posts. Makes it three posts that way.
SSC Junior Engineer Exam Pattern: Staff Selection Commission (SSC) Junior Engineer Examination will have the following Examination Pattern.
A. Written Test (500marks)
B. Interview (100 marks)
A. Written Test: It will consists of two papers viz Paper -I and Paper-II. Paper-I will consist of Objective Type Multiple Choice questions only and Paper-II will be Conventional Type questions. There will be negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer in Paper-I.
Paper I has got 200 questions for 200 marks to be attempted in 2 hours. General Intelligence Reasoning (50 ques), General Awareness (50 ques), and Respectice Engineering Discipline Civil/Mechanical/Electrical (100 ques).
Paper II is based completely on your engineering discipline. It is for 300 marks in 2 hours.
Note: Candidates are allowed to bring their own Slide–Rule, Non Programmable Calculator, Logarithm Tables and Steam Table for Paper-II only. They are not allowed to use such aids for Paper-I.
B. Personality Test (Interview): Personality test will be conducted for 100 marks. Only those candidates who secure at least the minimum qualifying marks in the written examination as may be fixed by the Commission at its discretion, will be eligible to appear in the Interview.
